GERMAN TOUR - MAY 2010
The last week of May saw Playtime’s return to Germany – this
time to tour SCE Schools, with our ever popular play “THE
WISH”
This is a fast moving fairy story with music, puppetry and
audience participation, suitable for the whole primary age
range so well suited to all pupils at SCE primary schools.
The play proved a big hit with all the schools (see comments
& feedback section) and we look forward to our next tour to
Germany, which will be this Autumn.
The only glitch in the whole tour proved to be that of our
trusty old van, which went on strike one lunch-time! However,
help was soon at hand, in the form of the German RAC and we
were quickly on the road again – it turned out to be a small
piece of dirt in the carburetor! Luckily, we were able to
slot our afternoon performance in later on in the tour so
all was well. Phew!
One of the most memorable parts of the tour, albeit somewhat
sobering was a visit, whilst in Bergen, to the nearby concentration
camp at Belsen, which is where Anne Frank died. Nothing remains
of the actual buildings anymore but the site has been preserved
and there are numerous memorials scattered throughout.
The tour took in schools in Bergen, Celle, Gutersloh, Bielefeld
and of course Rheindahlen. Sadly, Rheindahlen is earmarked
for closure in the near future so we hope that this does not
prove to be our last visit there.
