Return from Oman!
Playtime Theatre Company returned from
it’s second successful tour to the Sultanate of Oman.
Taking an environmental play called
Big Red, the actors Corinne
Heritage and Ilona Kent and tour manager, Nickolas Champion,
did fourteen performances at venues in and around the Muscat
area, including one for a UNESCO project at which they performed
in front of representatives from all corners of the world
including members of the Omani royal family.
Later in the tour, we had the opportunity
of performing before nursing staff and children at two of
Oman’s leading Hospitals. Many of the children there had never
seen live theatre of any kind before so, despite being ill,
they left us in no doubt about how much they enjoyed the performances
and the actors themselves, very used to performing to children
in schools, found the experience of performing to children
in hospitals both moving and rewarding.
Getting up at 5.30 am every morning
and performing in temperatures of 35 C + is not easy, especially
when you are wearing a thick furry rabbit suit, as Corinne
had to, but the reception the Omanis gave the Playtime group
made it well worth while and we look forward to further visits
to Oman.
