Playtime Theatre has been providing drama
for educational establishments since 1983 and in that time, we
have performed to countless numbers of young people, in many parts
of the world, so we know our business and we know drama works.
History.
In 1983, two actors and a writer, disillusioned with the material
then available, got together to form Playtime Theatre Company.
Their aim was to provide innovative but entertaining theatre for
young people in the South of England. So successful were their
productions that the area covered soon spread to include much
of the UK, performing to up to 10,000 people a week.
Having established itself as one of the
leading companies providing theatre for children in the UK, in
1994 Playtime broadened it’s horizons to include other countries
in Europe and initiated an exchange programme with Kolibri Szinhaz,
a young but leading theatre company in Hungary (www.kolibriszinhaz.hu).
This exchange programme has gone on to include companies in many
parts of Europe, allowing Playtime to tour in their countries,
as well as bringing their theatre to venues in the UK.
We also have an active independent touring
programme which, for several years, has seen Playtime performing
in venues throughout mainland Europe and, more recently, ones
in the Middle and Far East
Whilst it is a brave person who will declare
that anyone in the theatre world is totally secure, Playtime Theatre
has succeeded in establishing itself as a leading company in it’s
field with a wealth of experience behind it.
